Oxford Sandy and Black Boars for Hire

The pigs are naturally reared and free range and enjoy playing in the wood.  The Oxford Sandy and Black pig was often known as the 'Oxford forest pig', the 'plum pudding pig'.  They have excellent temperaments, are good foragers, hardy and make good mothers. Making them an excellent pig for the beginner and smallholder.  They are sandy in colour ranging from dark rust to a light sandy colour with black blotches over their body.  Ideally they should have a white blaze and white feet.  The Oxford Sandy and Black Pig is a medium to large pig with good length and deep body with strong legs and feet.

There are Four boar bloodlines: Jack, Alistair, Alexander and Clarence. Thirteen sow bloodlines: Alison, Clare, Clarissa, Cynthia, Dandy, Duchess, Elsie, Gertrude, Gloria, Iris, Lady, Mary and Sybil.

At present we keep the following bloodlines -

Sow lines: Gloria,  Clare, Iris, Gertrude & Clarissa

Boar lines: Clarence and Alexander (boars at stud and available to hire - please visit our Boars for hire page)

The Oxford Sandy and Black pig produces excellent pork, bacon and ham.

Our first sow was Clarris (Dukes Clare 3) bought as a birthday present for Inch and that was the start!

Our first litter of piglets was born to Clarris on 9 February 2009 beetween 12.45 am and 3.30am in her bed at the back of the barn which had a seperate heated area for the piglets to keep warm due to the freezing weather.  These piglets were Gloucester Old Spot crossed with Oxford Sandy and black.  Some were born all pink with a few spots and others were darker with splodges!

We then bought in a young Jack Boar from Rupert Middleton which Inch called Rupert (Darkeye Jack 28).  Rupert is now owned by Kym Slater (Frysfarm herd).

Clarris had 5 piglets to Andy and Maureen Case's Longash Clarence 15 on 10 January 2010.  We showed our gilts from this litter at our first two ever shows and they did really well.
